patriarchal consequence

May and the Duchess rebel the tryanny of male power put on them. The duchess through marriage and the standards of widows and female attributes whilst May does through her infidelity within a forced power controlled marriage with January

May’s consquences are more unresolved and connote audience of mediveal england would believe in punishment for May, whereas today we understand the repressed female sexuality and patriarchal structure she was under.

the Duchess’ consequnce of her death can be debated as a negative or positive conseuqence of her action, as she is murdered for her rebellion, though her death ends in defiance suggesting one last victory for not being crushed under male power, she does not let the death become a negative consequence and sticks by her actions ‘ proto feminist of chaucher’
