Subset Notation (⊂)
A mathematical symbol indicating containment; for example, A⊂U means that all the elements of set A are found in set U.
Union
The joining together of all elements from two sets without duplication.
Intersection
The process of identifying the common elements between two sets.
Disjoint Sets
Two or more sets that have no common elements.
Expression
Numbers, symbols, and operators grouped together that show the value of something.
Equation
A mathematical statement that asserts the equality of two expressions.
Inequality
A relation which makes a non-equal comparison between two numbers or other mathematical expressions.
Open Sentences
Mathematical sentences that have solutions and can be solved.
Parenthesis Words
Phrases in English translations—such as 'The Quantity of', 'Twice the sum of', 'Times the sum of', and 'Times the difference of'—that signal structural grouping in mathematical expressions.
