Employment Agreement
A contract listing employer expectations, compensation, benefits, and performance obligations for the employee or independent contractor.
Independent Contractor
A worker who provides services under contract but is not an employee; tax and benefit arrangements may differ.
Scope of Services
The duties and services the employee is expected to perform.
Employer-Provided Resources
Facilities and equipment supplied by the employer (room, table, hydrotherapy equipment, receptionist, scheduling, billing).
Outside Employment Clause
A provision about whether you may work for others during the term; overly broad restrictions can be illegal.
Fees and Payment Terms
Details of compensation, wages, raises, bonuses, and how and when payments are made.
Fringe Benefits
Non-wage benefits offered by the employer (insurance, paid time off, etc.).
Malpractice Insurance
Professional liability insurance covering claims of negligence in massage therapy.
Workers' Compensation
Insurance providing wage replacement and medical benefits for work-related injuries.
Termination with Cause / Notice
Conditions under which the contract can be terminated by either party, typically with notice.
30 Days Notice
A common notice period before ending the contract to allow client transitions.
Mediation
A neutral third party helps disputing parties reach a non-binding resolution.
Arbitration
A neutral third party renders a binding decision to resolve a dispute.
Negotiation
The process of discussing terms to reach a mutual agreement, with preparation and strategy.
Active Listening
Fully focusing on the speaker and reflecting back to ensure understanding in conflict situations.

Using 'I' statements to express feelings and concerns without blaming others.
