What is translational control?
Switching translation on and off
If we don't want translation to occur, what 2 things could happen?
Degrade mRNA
OR
Inhibitory proteins binding to the mRNA.
What does inhibitory proteins binding to the mRNA do?
Stops the mRNA from binding with the ribosome.
If we want translation to occur, what happens?
Activate initiation factors
Activate initiation factors
This allows mRNA to bind to the ribosome. This is done by phosphorylation. We add a phosphate group to the proteins to activate them. This is done by protein kinases, and protein kinases can be activated by cAMP.
