Earth wire

Green/yellow- protects the user if there is a fault. If the live wire becomes damaged, it provides a low-resistance path for the current, which is likely to be large enough to blow the fuse and turn off the circuit. It should be connected to the metal casing of an appliance.

2
New cards

Neutral wire

Completes the circuit in the plug

3
New cards

Fuse

Usually in the form of a cylinder or cartridge, containing a thin piece of wire that has a low melting point. If there is too large a current in the circuit the fuse wire will become very hot and melt. This makes the circuit incomplete so there is no longer any current.

4
New cards

Live wire

electrical energy travels through this wire to the appliance.
