To reform the NHS, what principles would be introduced?
Business principles. This meant that NHS would have responsibility for its own budget, and therefore this would implement a profit motivated mindset, making the NHS more efficient.

Control of their local authorities. Therefore this would reduce dependency culture on the government and allow schools to be independent and in charge of their own things.

Grants for young people. This shows how she still wanted to maintain or even increase opportunities for young, ‘hard-working’ people.

‘property owned democracy’. This would mean that more people are able to own property where they wouldn’t be able to usually, and therefore thatcher/conservatives believed that people would gain a sense of responsibility, and independence from this, and reduce dependency culture.

Long term council tenants. Therefore this would reduce dependency culture on the government, and allow council tenants who previously relied on the government to become more independent.

home ownership increased by 12%. This shows the success of her policy and how it actually had a positive impact in increasing home ownership.

Section 28. Shows how radical Thatchers policies were against change, therefore shows how Thatcher herself wasn’t able to implement policies that would regard a lot of change.

to 1.7 million. Therefore, this highlights the increased amount of unemployed. This issue was consistent.

Greater London Council.
Under Thatcher, poverty rose from 14% in 1983 to what in 1990?
to 20%. This shows how Thatchers economic policies had a negative affect on poverty, which would as a result have a bad social impact such as riots.
