What is an ionic bond?
The strong electrostatic attraction between oppositely-charged ions.
How are electrons involved in ionic bonding between metal and non-metal atoms?
Ionic bonding involves the transfer of electrons from a metal atom to a non-metal atom.
What physical properties of ionic solids are highlighted in the student booklet?
Ionic solids are hard, brittle, and have a high melting point.
What is a covalent bond?
A bond in which two non-metal atoms share one or more pairs of valence electrons.

Metallic bonding is described as metal ions surrounded by a 'sea' of delocalised electrons.
What is the definition of malleable?
Able to be hammered or pressed into shape without breaking.

The ability of a material to allow electricity (or heat) to pass through it.
