What does a Px need to be allowed a CL fit?

Spec prescription within recall date (usually 2 yrs). Evidence is required.

What is a contact lens specification?

Legal requirement to give this within 3 months of initial lens fitting. It includes:

• Px name + address

• DOB (if under 16)

• Name, reg and signature of practitioner

• Date of fitting

• Expiry date

• Lens details

Rules for supplying CLs

• Needs to be supervised/ general direction from qualified and registered eye care professional

• Supervision means the supply is monitored and checked- spec in date, Px aware of how to deal with solution/ lenses, knows next AC apt.

• Direction means the professional may be in a management team that could verify the CL spec.

• Supplier must advise Px on aftercare and what to do in case of an issue.

Yes, after getting consent from Px.
