Stanza
A division of a poem.
Epilogue
A brief section or scene at the end of a literary work, typically after the main events of the piece.
Abbreviate
To make a written piece, such as a word or story, shorter by leaving out parts or details.
Abridge
To shorten or reduce something, often a literary work, and retain the main meaning.
Anagram
Any word whose constituent letters have to be unscrambled in order to get the word.
Annotate
To add extra notes to a text to explain it.
Antonym
A word of opposite meaning in contrast to another word.
Append
To make an addition at the end of a document.
Caption
A short explanation below the picture or illustration; describing the title.
Compile
To gather information or data from other sources and put together a list, report, or book.
Condense
To shorten a piece of writing or a speech.
Figurative
The metaphorical rather than literal uses of words.
Folklore
This comprises the tales, myths, traditions, beliefs, customs, superstitions and various art forms of a particular group of people that are preserved through generations.
Ode
A type of poem written to a specific person or thing.
Parable
An easy to understand story, that teaches some kind of lesson.
Preamble
An introductory or preliminary statement, particularly one that explains the purpose of a speech, book or document.
Prolific
Used to describe a person that produces a lot of work, such as books.
Satire
A piece of art that makes fun of its subject.
Scribble
To quickly write or draw.
Simile
A figure of speech used to compare two unlike objects using as or like.
Stanza
A division of a poem.
Treatise
A long piece of writing that explores a subject.
