Akinetopsia
A condition where individuals are unable to perceive motion.
Detection
The first function of motion perception, crucial for survival, allowing individuals to notice potentially dangerous objects.
Event Boundary
A point in time when one event ends and another begins, often associated with changes in motion.
Local Disturbance in the Optic Array
Changes in the visual environment that signal movement, as created by an observer moving through their surroundings.
Global Optic Flow
The observation that everything moves in response to the motion of the observer's body or eyes, indicating that the environment is stationary.
Corollary Discharge Signal
A copy of the motor signal sent to the eyes, used to help the brain understand motion without perceiving motion blur.
Reichardt Detector
A neural circuit that processes motion by comparing signals from two neurons to determine direction.
Apparent Motion
The perception of movement when stationary stimuli are alternated in timing, following the shortest path constraint.
Biological Motion
Self-produced motion of a person or other living organisms that can be recognized from simple visual cues, like point-light walkers.
Representational Momentum
The mental projection of motion that continues in the observer’s mind after viewing an implied motion.
