Learn View
An interactive sidebar in Live containing lessons and learning modules designed to help users get familiar with the software.
Info View
A UI component that displays the name and function of any element the user hovers over with the mouse; it can be toggled with the ? key.
The Control Bar
Located at the top of the Live window, it contains settings for Tempo, Metronome, Transport Controls, and MIDI/CPU monitoring.
The Status Bar
Located at the bottom of the screen, it provides details about selected notes (pitch, velocity, probability) or the precise location of an insert marker.
The Browser
The central hub for interacting with the musical library, including the Core Library, Live Packs, presets, samples, and external files.
Sound Similarity
A feature in the browser that allows users to find samples with similar acoustic characteristics to a selected sample.
Live Set
The type of document created and worked on in Live, containing all the information about a musical project.
Arrangement View
A timeline-based view where music is organized along a horizontal axis from left to right.
Session View
A non-linear, clip-based view used for improvisation and performance, where clips are organized in a grid.
Clips
The basic building blocks of music in Live, which can be either Audio or MIDI.
Tracks
Vertical columns (in Session View) or horizontal lanes (in Arrangement View) that host clips and device chains.
Scenes
Horizontal rows in the Session View used to launch multiple clips across different tracks simultaneously.
Back to Arrangement Button
A control that indicates when a track is playing a Session clip instead of the Arrangement and allows the user to return to the Arrangement timeline.
Warping
Live's ability to time-stretch audio samples so they stay in sync with the project's tempo regardless of their original speed.
Device View
The area at the bottom of the screen where MIDI effects, instruments, and audio effects are placed and edited.
Clip View
The area where properties for a selected clip, such as pitch, warping, or MIDI notes, can be edited.
Scale Awareness
A feature that allows clips and certain devices to stay locked to a specific musical scale throughout a project.
Return Tracks
Special tracks that contain only effects and are fed signals from other tracks via their 'sends'.
Crossfader
A mixer control that allows smooth transitions between different tracks, often used in a DJ-style workflow.
Automation Envelopes
Breakpoint lines used in the Arrangement View to automate parameter changes over time.
Clip Envelopes
Envelopes contained within individual clips that can modulate parameters independently of the Arrangement timeline.
Collections
Seven color-coded labels in the browser that allow users to quickly organize and access their favorite folders and assets.
Packs
Bundles of musical content, including instruments and samples, which can be downloaded and installed within the Live browser.
Splice
A royalty-free sample library integrated into the Live browser, allowing users to search and sync samples to their project tempo.
Search with Sound
A Splice-integrated feature that finds compatible samples based on an audio clip dragged into the search area.
