simple squamous epithelium
Located in the lungs, blood vessels, and serous membranes. Functions in diffusion/filtration and secretes lubricating substances in serosae.


simple cuboidal epithelium
located in the kidneys, secretory portions of small glands, and the ovary surface. Functions in secretion and absorption.


simple columnar epithelium
Located in digestive tract lining, uterine tubes, small bronchi, gallbladder. Functions in absorption, secretion of mucus and enzymes, The ciliated type propels mucus


pseudostratified columnar epithelium
Located in trachea and most of the upper respiratory tract. Functions in secretion of substances (mucus)


stratified squamous epithelium
Non keratinized version is located in esophagus, mouth, and vagina. Keatinized variety is in the epidermis of the skin


stratified cuboidal epithelium
Located in the largest ducts of the sweat glands, ammary glands, and salivary glands

stratified columnar epithelium
located in male urethra. Functions in protection and secretion

transitional epithelium
Located in the ureters, bladder. Functions in the distension of the urinary organs. There is a relaxed and then a distended version


Connective tissue proper: loose connective tissue, areolar
Located under epithelia of the body: it packages organs and surrounds capillaries. Functions in cushioning organs and inflammation.

Located under the skin, around kidneys + eyeballs, and in breasts

Located in lymphs nodes, bone marrow, and spleen. Fuctions by forming a soft internal skeleton that supports cells like white blood cells, mast clls, and macrophages.

Located in tendons. Functions in attaching muscles to bones/other muscles, bones to bones


connective tissue proper: elastic connective tissue
located in walls of large arteries and within the walls of the bronchial tubes. Functions in allows recoil of tissue following stretching. Maintains pulsatile flow of blood through arteries + passive recoil of lungs


connective tissue proper: dense irregular connective tissue
Located in fibrous capsules of organs and joints. Functions in being able to withstand tension + structural strength


Cartilage: hyaline
Located in the embryonic skeleton. Functions in supports and reinforcement. Resists compressive stress


cartilage: elastic
located in external ear and epiglottis. Functions in maintaining the structure while still allowing flexibility


cartilage: fibrocartilage
located in intervertebral discs, knee joint discs, and pubic symphysis. Functions in tensile strength with the ability to absorb compressive shock


bones
Function in support and protection. Marrow is site of blood cell formation


blood
located in blood vessles. Transports respiratory gases, nutrients, wastes.


skeletal muscle
located in skeletal muscles attached to bones or occasionally to skin. functions in voluntary movement, locomotion, facial expression

cardiac muscle
located in the walls of the heart. Functions in propelling blood during contraction.

smooth muscle
located in the walls of hollow organs. Functions is propelling subtances + involuntary control
