Lister Bandage Scissors
Scissors used to remove bandages and dressing, featuring a blunt probe pointed blade that can easily be inserted under the bandage without injury to the skin.
Tapered Needle
A needle that is round and tapers to a simple point, most commonly used in softer tissue such as intestine but may also be used in tougher tissue such as muscle.
Conventional Cutting Needle
A triangular needle with sharp edges where one edge faces the inside of the curved needle, used for tougher tissues such as skin.
Natural Absorbable Sutures
Sutures derived from natural sources that break down in tissue, specifically Plain Catgut and Chromic Catgut.
Natural Non-Absorbable Sutures
Sutures made from natural materials that are not absorbed by tissue, including Silk, Cotton, and Stainless Steel Suture.
Synthetic Absorbable Sutures
Man-made sutures that absorb in tissue, including Vicryl, Monocryl, and PDS.
Synthetic Non-Absorbable Sutures
Man-made sutures that are non-absorbable, including Nylon, Prolene, and Polyester Fiber (Ethiband, Mersilene).
Towel Clips
Instruments akin to small forceps used for attaching things onto drapes, holding together different sections of drape material covering a patient during operations.
Surgical Hammers
Instruments of various shapes most often used in orthopaedics for driving nails into bone, or alongside a chisel in amputations.
Surgical Drills
Cordless battery-operated tools used to drive screws into bone and create boreholes in the skull during neurosurgery.
Surgical Saws
Tools available in battery-operated and manual versions (such as the Gigli saw) commonly used in amputations.
Dilators
Blunt probe-like instruments used for stretching lumens, such as the urethra.
Tunnellers
Long hollow tube-like instruments that can be pushed under the skin to allow placement of drains prior to device removal.
