ATP
adenosine triphosphate - used to capture and transfer free energy required for processes
why is ATP useful to cells
releases large amount of energy when hydrolysed into ADP + Pi and ATP can phosphorylate many different molecules which gains some energy stored in ATP
what is ATP made of
adenine base, a ribose sugar, and three phosphate groups.
hydrolysis
breaks a bond by inserting the components of water
ATP hydrolysis which breaks bonds between last 2 phosphate groups = ADP (has 2 phosphates) and Pi (inorganic phosphate) and releases lots of energy
