Why does gene regulation occur in bacteria?
Based on environmental changes, they will turn genes on or off; they don’t have a purposes or need for cell differentiation
Why does gene regulation occur in eukaryotes?
For cell differentiation and environmental changes
DNA sequence that encodes a protein used in metabolism, biosynthesis, or has a structural role in the cell
DOES NOT regulate gene expression
Structural genes
DNA sequence that encode a protein or RNA that interact with other DNA sequences and directly affects their gene expression by affecting its transcription and translation
Regulatory Genes
A gene that is expressed continually without regulation
ex: structural genes
Constitutive Genes
DNA sequences that are not transcribed but still affect the transcription of other DNA sequences; physically linked
Regulatory Elements
