Most coastal areas dominated by European countries. Most are independence movements, freedom from European countries/power.
Referred to as democratic because goal was to extend political rights (gave people different mindset).
Seven Years’ War
Fought between France, Britain, and kind of Spain. Britain won but in HUGE debt.
Navigation Acts
Acts that regulated trade because of Merchantilism.
Sugar Act, Stamp Act, Townshend Acts
New taxes that increased British interference in previously self-governed American colonies.
Quartering Acts
Britain sent troops to colonies to ensure compliance with British laws and maintain order, requiring colonists to provide housing and supplies for the soldiers.
Stamp Act
Tax on all printed material. Tax was on transactions and not imports/exports. Created many protests and riots.
Why was America mad
Britain was taxing transactions inside colonies and did not give everyone representation like in the American governments.
Boston Tea Party
Colonists dumped all the tea in the river. Britain then shut down the harbor and removed the government, making more people aware of Britain’s tyranny.
Sons of Liberty
A group of American colonists who opposed the British and aimed to stop this obstruction of liberty.
Continental Congress
They tried to unite the colonies and resist the British.
Declaration of Independence
Reflected enlightenment ideas, influential in the revolutions. Created Liberal Creed/Liberalism.
Articles of Confederation
Created to govern but later replaced by constitution.
