Statistics

Variable

Data item
An individual value in a dataset associated with a variable.
Categorical (Qualitative) Variable
A variable whose values describe quality, category, or description rather than a quantity.
Quantitative Variable
A variable whose values represent a measurable quantity and allow meaningful calculations.
Eye color
A categorical variable describing the color of a person’s eyes.
Hair color
A categorical variable describing hair color.
Book genre
A categorical variable describing the type or category of a book.
Height
A quantitative variable representing a person’s stature; measured in units like inches or centimeters.
Age
A quantitative variable representing how old someone is; measured in years.
Time (min)
A quantitative variable measuring duration in minutes.
Zip code
A categorical variable used to describe location groups.
Phone number
A categorical variable used as an identifier or contact detail; not a measurement.
