Hydrochloric Acid (HCl)
An acid found in the stomach that aids digestion and is also used as a cleaning agent; made of one hydrogen atom and one chlorine atom.
Methane (CH4)
A simple hydrocarbon composed of one carbon atom bonded to four hydrogen atoms.
Ammonia (NH3)
A compound consisting of one nitrogen atom bonded to three hydrogen atoms.
Stomach Acid
The hydrochloric acid naturally present in the stomach to help break down food during digestion.
Cleaning Agent
A substance, such as hydrochloric acid, employed to remove stains or sanitize surfaces.
Hydrogen Atom
The lightest type of atom; appears once in HCl, three times in NH3, and four times in CH4.
Carbon Atom
The central atom in methane, present as a single atom in CH4.
Nitrogen Atom
The single central atom found in ammonia (NH3).
Chemical Formula
A shorthand representation (e.g., HCl, CH4, NH3) showing the kinds and quantities of atoms in a compound.
Common Compounds
Frequently encountered substances such as hydrochloric acid, methane, and ammonia discussed in the lecture.
