Tundra
Biome is characterized by long winters, short summers, temperatures from -34°C to 12°C, No trees and very little precipitation. Treeless biome with permanently frozen soil under the surface and average yearly precipitation of 15 - 25 cm.
Boreal Forest (Taiga)
Biome found in the Northern part of North America, Europe, and Asia, and is characterized by short, moist summers and long, cold, and dry winters. Biome south of the tundra with dense evergreen forests and long, cold, dry winters
Temperate Forest
Biome south of the boreal forest characterized by broad-leaved, deciduous trees, well-defined seasons, and average yearly precipitation of 75-150 cm. Is characterized by four distinct seasons, having temperatures from -30°C to 30°C
Temperate Woodland (Chaparral/Shrubland)
Biome has summers that are very hot and dry, cool, wet winters, and the dominant plant species are shrubs and small trees. Biome characterized by small trees and mixed shrub communities
Temperate Grassland
Biome where you might find temperatures from -40°C to 38°C, grasses, and animals like bison, rodents, and snakes. Biome characterized by fertile soils with a thick cover of grasses
Desert
A very wide range of temperatures with little rainfall; can support cacti and some grasses and animal species such as organisms like cacti, rattlesnakes, and coyotes
Tropical Savanna
Temperatures ranging from 20°C - 30°C, grasses and scattered trees, and organisms like lions, zebras, and giraffes
Tropical Seasonal Forest
Biome where you find >200 cm of rainfall occurring seasonally, with temperatures from 20°C - 25°C. Biome characterized by deciduous and evergreen trees, a dry season, and animal species that include monkeys, elephants, and Bengal tigers
Tropical Rainforest
Biome where you'll find 200-1000 cm of rainfall, temperatures from 24°C - 27°C, and organisms like toucans, jaguars, and sloths. Hot, wet biome with year-round humidity; contains Earth's most diverse species of plants and animals
