Dorsal body cavity
A primary body cavity that contains the cranial cavity and the vertebral cavity.
Cranial cavity
A cavity contained within the dorsal body cavity.
Vertebral cavity
A cavity located within the dorsal body cavity.
Ventral body cavity
A major body cavity comprised of both the thoracic cavity and the abdominopelvic cavity.
Thoracic cavity
A major cavity within the ventral body cavity containing the superior mediastinum, pleural cavity, and pericardial cavity within the mediastinum.
Superior mediastinum
A sub-region located in the upper portion of the thoracic cavity.
Pleural cavity
A cavity located within the thoracic cavity.
Pericardial cavity
A cavity located within the mediastinum in the thoracic cavity.
Diaphragm
An anatomical boundary separating the thoracic cavity above from the abdominopelvic cavity below.
Abdominopelvic cavity
A ventral body cavity subdivision consisting of the abdominal cavity and the pelvic cavity.
Abdominal cavity
The upper compartment of the abdominopelvic cavity.
Pelvic cavity
The lower compartment of the abdominopelvic cavity.
