What muscle is this?
Triceps brachii
What muscle is this?
Vastus intermedius
What muscle is this?
Vastus lateralis
What muscle is this?
Vastus medialis
What is the function of the biceps brachii?
Flexes arm
What is the function of the biceps femoris?
Extends thigh at hip joint (long head)
Flexes leg at knee joint (long + short head)
What is the function of the brachialis?
Agonist of forearm flexion
What is the function of the deltoid?
Anterior Fibers: Flex and medially rotate arm
Middle Fibers: Agonist of arm abduction
Posterior Fibers: Extends and laterally rotate arm
What is the function of the digastric?
Elevates the hyoid bone while depressing the mandible
What is the function of the external obliques?
BA1: Flexes the vertebral column and compresses the abdominal wall which is used in forced expiration
BA2: Laterally flexes and rotates the vertebral column to the opposite side
What is the function of the gastrocnemius?
Flexes the leg at the knee joint while being an agonist of plantar flexion of foot at the ankle joint
What is the function of the gluteus maximus?
Agonist of thigh extensions, laterally rotating the thigh at the hip joint
What is the function of the gluteus medius?
Abducts thigh, so medially rotates the thigh at the hip joint
What is the function of the infraspinus?
Agonist that laterally rotates and adducts the arm
What is the function of the latissimus dorsi?
Agonist of arm extensions so medially rotates and adducts arm
What is the function of the masseter?
Elevates and protracts the mandible:
Agonist (prime mover) of mandible elevation (closing of the mouth)
What is the function of the internal oblique?
BA: Flexes the vertebral column and compresses the abdominal wall which is used in forced expiration
UA: Laterally flexes and rotates the vertebral column to the same side
What is the function of the pectoralis major?
Agonist of arm flexion so it adducts and medially rotates arm
What is the function of the rectus abdominus?
Flexes the vertebral column and compresses the abdominal wall which is used in forced expiration
What is the function of the rectus femoris?
Flexes thigh at hip joint extending the leg at knee joint
What is the function of the soleus?
Agonist of plantar flexion of foot at ankle joint
What is the function of the supraspinatus?
abducts arm
What is the function of the trapezius?
Superior Fibers: Elevates and rotates scapular superiorly
Middle Fibers: Retracts scapula
Inferior Fibers: Depresses scapula
What is the function of the triceps brachii?
Extends and adducts arm
What is the function of the vastus intermedius?
Extends leg at knee joint
What is the function of the vastus lateralis?
Extends leg at knee joint
What is the function of the vastus medialis?
Extends leg at knee joint
