Emergency Action Steps
The steps to follow during an emergency: Check, Call, Care.
Responsive Adult Consent
If a responsive adult does not give consent to care, do not give care but call 9-1-1 instead.
Indicators of an Emergency
Noises, odors, and sights that signal an emergency situation.
PPE
Personal Protective Equipment, which minimizes the risk of disease transmission.
Shock in Victims
If a victim goes into shock, do not give them water.
CPR Compression Ratio
30 chest compressions followed by 2 rescue breaths for adult CPR.
Chain of Survival
Early recognition, early CPR, and early defibrillation, which can improve survival rates.
Choking Relief Position
Position your fist in the middle of the abdomen, just above the navel to give abdominal thrusts.
Effective Chest Compressions
Should allow the chest to return to normal position, delivered fast, at about 100 compressions per minute.
AED Use
The first step in using an AED is to turn it on.
Defibrillation
An electric shock that may help the heart to resume an effective rhythm in a person experiencing sudden cardiac arrest.
AED Pad Placement
AED pads are placed on the upper right and left side of the chest.
Analyzing Heart Rhythm
Ensure that no one is touching the person before the AED analyzes the heart rhythm.
Child or Infant AED Application
Place one AED pad on the middle of the chest and one on the back to prevent contact between the pads.
Chest Compressing Rate for CPR
Effective compressions are delivered smoothly and regularly at about 100 per minute.
Rescue Breath Duration
Each rescue breath should last about one second.
Breath Check Duration
Check for breathing for no more than 10 seconds.
