What is physiology?
The study of the processes in the body
What is homeostasis?
The regulation of internal conditions despite external stimuli
What is a set point?
Optimal range for physiological condition
What is the difference between set point and a normal range?
set point is the exact number and the normal range is the spread of numbers below the set point
What are the 3 parts of a feedback loop?
Sensor, integrating center, effector
What does the sensor do?
detects deviation from the set point
what does the integrating center do?
Determine the necessary response
What does the effector do?
it carries out the physical response
What is negative feedback?
change is counteracted (brought down) to maintain homeostasis
What is positive feedback?
change is amplified to maintain homeostasis
