Psychologic Disorders
A syndrome marked by a clinically significant disturbance in an individuals cognition, emotion regulation, or behavior
Medical Model
The concept that diseases, in this case psychological disorders, that have physical causes that can be diagnosed, treated, and in most cases, cured often through hospital treatment
Diathesis-Stress Model
Posits that mental disorders arise from a combination of an individuals genetic or biological predisposition and environmental stressors

The American Psychiatric Association Diagnostic and statistical manual of mental disorder; a wildly used system for classifying a psychological disorder
Anxiety Disorders
mental health conditions characterized by excessive and persistent fear, anxiety, or worry that significantly interferes with daily life
Social Anxiety Disorders
mental health condition characterized by a persistent and excessive fear of social situations where there is a potential for security for others
Generalized Anxiety Disorder
A person is continuingly tense, apprehensive, and in a state of automatic nervous system arousal
Panic Disorder
Anxiety Disorder Marked by unpredictable, minute-long episodes of intense dread in which a person experiences terror, chest pain, choking, or other frightening sensations
Specific Phobia
A marked fear of certain objects, stimuli, or situation
Obsessive COmpulsive Disorder(OCD)
Characterized by intrusive, unwanted thought(obsessions) and repetitive behaviors or mental acts(compulsions) aimed at reducing anxiety
Hoarding Disorder
difficulty discarding possessions, regardless of their value, leading to clutter and impairment in daily functioning
Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)
A mental condition that can develop after experiencing or witnessing a traumatic event
Trauma and Stress Related Disorder
mental health conditions that develop in response to experiencing a traumatic/stressful event
Depressive Disorders
characterized by persistent sadness and loss of interest
Bipolar Disorders
A mental health condition characterized by extreme mood swings, including periods of elevated mood and period of depressed moods
Major Depressive Disorder
when a person experiences 5 or more symptoms lasting 2 or more weeks, in the absence of drug use or a medical condition in which would be depressed mood or loss of interest
Persistent Depressive Disorder
A disorder in which people experience a depressed mood on more days than not for at least 2 years
Mania
A hyperactive, wildly optimistic state in which dangerously poor judgement in common
