Yahweh
The name for the God of Israel in Jewish tradition, often represented by the letters YHWH.
Torah
The first part of the Hebrew scriptures, commonly referred to as the teachings or law.
Nevi'im
The second part of the Hebrew scriptures, known as the prophets.
Ketuvium
The third part of the Hebrew scriptures, which includes various writings.
Tanakh
An acronym referring to the Jewish scriptures, encompassing the Torah, Nevi'im, and Ketuvium.
Christian Old Testament
A collection of books that does not exactly align with the Hebrew Bible but includes additional texts.
Diaspora
The dispersion of Jews outside of Israel.
Prophet
In biblical terms, a prophet is someone who delivers messages or warnings, often reflecting the harsh realities of society.
Messiah
An anointed one or chosen agent of God in Hebrew; Jesus is referred to as Jesus the Christ, meaning Jesus the anointed one.
Gospels
The four books of the New Testament that detail the life and teachings of Jesus.
Oral traditions
Stories and events that are passed down verbally, often varying in detail.
Canonical writings
The authoritative texts recognized by religious authorities as part of scripture.
