Nonviolent Resistance
A method of protest that rejects the use of physical violence to achieve social or political goals.
Mohandas Gandhi
Leader of the Indian independence movement known for his policy of nonviolent resistance against British colonial rule.
Salt March
A significant act of civil disobedience led by Gandhi in 1930 protesting the British salt monopoly.
Montgomery Bus Boycott
A mass protest led by Martin Luther King, Jr. against racial segregation on public buses in Montgomery, Alabama.
Nelson Mandela
South African anti-apartheid revolutionary who initially advocated nonviolent resistance, later embraced armed struggle.
Apartheid
A policy or system of segregation or discrimination on grounds of race instituted by the white minority government in South Africa.

The use of violence and intimidation against civilians in pursuit of political aims.

A militant Islamic organization founded by Osama bin Laden, known for its terrorist attacks, most notably the September 11 attacks.
