Exponential Change
Change that does not just grow but accelerates, starting small and suddenly becoming massive, often catching people off-guard.
Digital Darwinism
The phenomenon where businesses and even entire industries face extinction when they fail to adapt to the rapidly evolving digital landscape.
BANI World
A framework describing an environment characterized as Brittle, Anxious, Non-linear, and Incomprehensible.
Brittle (BANI)
A characteristic of the BANI world where things look strong but can break suddenly.
Anxious (BANI)
A characteristic of the BANI world where people feel stressed and unsure.
Non-linear (BANI)
A characteristic of the BANI world where small actions can have big, unexpected effects.
Incomprehensible (BANI)
A characteristic of the BANI world where it is hard to understand what is happening or why.
Common Responses to Change
Typical reactions to change, including Fear or anxiety, Confusion, Hope or excitement, Resistance, and Fatigue or burnout.
Kotter's 8-Step Model
A framework to lead team change consisting of: 1. Create a sense of urgency, 2. Build a guiding coalition, 3. Form a strategic vision and initiatives, 4. Enlist a volunteer army, 5. Enable action by removing barriers, 6. Generate short-term wins, 7. Sustain acceleration, and 8. Institute change.
ADKAR Model
An individual-level change framework consisting of Awareness, Desire, Knowledge, Ability, and Reinforcement.
Awareness (ADKAR)
Awareness of the need to change, addressing the question: "Why are we going on this journey?"
Desire (ADKAR)
Desire to support the change, addressing the question: "Do I want to go?"
Knowledge (ADKAR)
Knowledge of how to change, addressing the question: "How do I do this?"
Ability (ADKAR)
Ability to demonstrate new skills, addressing the question: "Can I actually do this?"
Reinforcement (ADKAR)
Reinforcement to make change stick, addressing the question: "How do I keep going?"
Kotter vs. ADKAR Purpose
Kotter helps lead the whole team through change, while ADKAR helps support each person through change step-by-step.
