What does SPICESS stand for?
Space, place, interconnection, change, environment, sustainability, scale

The effects of location and how it is organised and managed helps us to understand why the world is the way it is. eg. a relative or specific location
Place definition and example?
To understand our world, we need to understand how places influence our lives and how we change them
e.g. natural or modified places
Interconnection definition and example?
People and things are connected to others in their own and other places.
e.g. economic development
Change definition and example?
Change is about using time to better understand a place, an environment, spatial pattern or geographical problem.
e.g. long-term or short term
Environment definition and example?
People live and depend on the environment - it has an important influence on people’s lives
e.g. positive and negative human effects
Sustainability definition and example?
The capacity of the environment to support people’s lives and the lives of other living creatures
e.g. sustainable management, technology
Scale definition and example?

What are the human-centred world views?
Egocentric - I am the most important creature and everything serves me
Anthropocentric - Humans are the most important species and are in charge of Earth
What are the Earth-centred world views?
Ecocentric - We should do everything we can to minimise our impact, we are not that important
Biocentric - We need to use the Earth’s resources sustainably and treat other species right
