Cellular Respiration
The process by which cells break down glucose to produce ATP.
Aerobic
Requiring oxygen.
Anaerobic
Occurring without oxygen.
Glycolysis
The first stage of cellular respiration that breaks glucose into pyruvic acid and produces ATP.
Lactic Acid Fermentation
An anaerobic process that converts pyruvic acid into lactic acid and regenerates NAD+.
NAD+
An electron carrier that helps transfer energy during cellular respiration.
Krebs Cycle
The second stage of cellular respiration that releases energy from pyruvic acid and produces electron carriers.
Electron Transport Chain
The final stage of cellular respiration where most ATP is produced using high-energy electrons and oxygen.
Alcoholic Fermentation
An anaerobic process that converts pyruvic acid into alcohol and carbon dioxide while regenerating NAD+.
