What’s the biosphere?
All the parts of the Earth that contain all ecosystems
What’s the ecosystem?
Community and nonliving surroundings
What’s a community?
Populations that live together in a defined area
What’s a population?
group of individuals of the same species living in the same area at the same time
What’s a organism?
Individual living things
What’s a group of cells?
Tissue organ, organ system
What’s a cell?
Smallest functional unit of life
What are molecules?
Atoms, smallest unit of chemical compounds
How old is the earth?
4.6 billion
How old are humans?
100,000 or 200,000 to 300,000
What’s the difference between weathering and erosion?
Weathering - breaks down
Erosion - carries away
What are 2 changes in the lithosphere?
Weathering
Erosion
What are 2 changes in the hydrosphere
El nino and La nina
Ice Age
What are 2 changes in the atomsphere?
Photosynthesis
Greenhouse effect
What is the greenhouse effect?
When shortwave radiation leaves the earth. Some waves never reach the earth but some hit the earth and change into longwaves. Longwave radiaiton gets trapped by greenhouse gases.
What are the needs of organisms?
Water
Food/energy
Living Space
Climate
What are factors that affect water quality?
Temperature
Nutrients
Dissolved Oxygen
Other chemicals
What’s dormant?
Growth, development, and activity temporarily stops
What’s hibernation?
Slower heart rate, breathing slows down, temp drops, and animals enter a sleeplike state
What’s a habitat?
Where a particular species lives
It provides all of their needs
How do you calculate biodiversity?
divide the total number of species over the total number of individuals
