Bone
A hard type of connective tissue which forms the skeleton.
Axial Skeleton
The part of the skeleton that forms the longitudinal axis of the body, consisting of 80 bones.
Appendicular Skeleton
The part of the skeleton consisting of limbs and girdles, with 126 bones.
Functional Anatomy of Bone
Examines the structure of bone and its roles in support, protection, movement, mineral storage, and blood cell formation.
Cranium
The part of the skull that encloses and protects the brain.
Vertebral Column
The flexible curved structure made up of 33 irregular bones (vertebrae) supporting the body.
Sternum
A flat bone part of the thoracic cage that consists of three parts: manubrium, body, xiphoid process.
True Ribs
The upper 7 pairs of ribs that articulate with the sternum by their costal cartilage.
Sesamoid Bones
Bones embedded in some muscle tendons, such as the patella, which diminish friction.
Pneumatic Bones
Bones that contain air cavities, such as certain skull bones with paranasal sinuses.
