General Ludendorff and Field Marshall Hindenburg told Kasier Wilhem that the war could not be won and a democratic republic should be established

Hindenburg announced to the Reichstag that plans for a democratic government and Kaiser Wilhem appointed Prince Max of Baden to run the government

Kiel Mutiny (soldier in the navy refused to follow the Kaiser’s orders - demonstrated that he had lost support from the military)

Kaiser Wilhem lost the support of his advisors and was forced to abdicate (fled to Holland and died in 1941)

Phillip Scheidemann declared the new German Republic under the SPD however hours later Karl Liebknect declared another new German Republic under the USPD

Freidrich Ebert created the Council of People’s Representatives as a coalition between the SPD and USPD until the January 1919 elections - fell through in later December due to differences in opinions

French and Belgium forces entered the Ruhr and used their own workers to pay reparations. Ebert calls a ‘passive resistance’ and causes hyperinfaltion as more money was printed to pay back the French and Belgium forces faster

Stresemann creates the Rentenmark to combat hyperinfaltion - links to the price of land

Dawes Plan saw 800 million marks be loaned to Germany from American banks
1925
Locarno Pact signed by Italy, France, Belgium, Britain and Germany - recognised the borders between Germany and France and agreed on the DMZ of the Rhineland
1926
Germany were invited to join the League of Nations by Woodrow Wilson
1928
Kellogg Briand Pact signed by 63 countries who agreed not to use force/violence in times of disagreement
1929
Young Plan - Germany has its reparations lowered from £6.6 billion to £2 billion which would be paid back by 1988
