Wye-connected
A connection method in three-phase electrical systems where the ends of each phase are connected to a common neutral point.
Power Factor
The ratio of real power flowing to the load to the apparent power in the circuit.
Ideal Transformer
A transformer with infinite permeability, no losses, and no leakage flux.
Self GMD
Geometric mean distance used to calculate the inductance of a conductor.
Hysteresis Loss
Energy loss due to the magnetization and demagnetization of the magnetic core in transformers.
Permeance
The measure of the ease with which magnetic flux can travel through a magnetic circuit.
Inductive Reactance
The opposition that an inductor presents to the change in current flowing through it, measured in ohms.
Armature Resistance
The resistance in the winding of an electric machine, contributing to power losses.
Back EMF
The voltage generated by a motor or generator that opposes the applied voltage.
Coefficient of Utilization
A measure of how well the installed lighting system distributes light in a room.
Frequency Width
The range of frequencies over which a circuit can operate effectively, often measured between half-power points.
Transformer Taps
Connections on a transformer winding that allow for voltage adjustment.
Electric Field
A field around charged particles that exerts a force on other charged particles.
Zero Sequence Impedance
Impedance measured under conditions of zero sequence current, relating to unbalanced loads.
Time Constant
A measure of the time it takes for a circuit to charge or discharge a capacitor.
Three-phase System
An electrical system with three separate currents, which can be generated by a three-phase generator.
Capacitance
The ability of a system to store charge per unit voltage, measured in farads.
Efficiency
A measure of how much input energy is converted to useful output energy, expressed as a percentage.
