Non-fiction

Literary works grounded in facts, real events and actual people.

Tall tale

A humorous short story recounting ridiculously exaggerated events.

Science fiction

A made-up story using possible, but improbable science and technology.

Novel

A long fiction book, usually made up of 40,000 words or more.

Realistic fiction

Stories that try to depict real everyday life.

Romance

Genre for stories about love and personal relationships.

Short story

A work of narrative fiction, made up of 1,000 to 10,000 words.

Autobiography

An account of a person's life written by that person.

Biography

An account of a person's life written by another person.

Speech

A formal address or discourse, delivered to an audience.

Novella

A book, shorter than a novel, of 20,000 to 50,000 words.

Narrative non-fiction

Factual writing, using storytelling techniques to tell a true story.
