Rule 1 of Body Mechanics
Size up or appraise the work or bad to be hadled; do not attempt to lift if there is doubt in your mind and get help.
Rule 2 of Body Mechanics
Check your footing to ensure it is firm and secure with feet apart to give a broad base of support while standing close to the work.

A footing position where feet are kept apart to provide a firm and secure foundation.
Rule 3 of Body Mechanics
Get a secure grip on the person or objects being handled to prevent injuries to the patient or nurse.
Rule 4 of Body Mechanics
Keep the back straight and bend knees, hips, and ankels, lifting by straightening your legs.
Rule 5 of Body Mechanics
Take a deep breath and contract the abdominal muscels to place the pelvis in the proper lifting position.

Rule 6 of Body Mechanics
Keep the weight being lifted close to the body.
Rule 7 of Body Mechanics
Lift smoothly, as a quick jerk motion leads to strain.
Rule 8 of Body Mechanics
Do not over-reach or over-stretch; keep arms at normal height with elbows dose to the body.
