hormones that cause birth
immediately before birth the placenta stops making progesterone, the walls of the uterus begin to contract as a result, the pituitary gland releases oxytocin, this causes further contractions of the uterus
stage1 of birth
the contraction of the uterus pushes the foetus towards the cervix, mucous plug is expelled, this causes the cervix to dilate, during this stage contractions cause the amnion to break to release amniotic fluid
stage 2 of birth
foetus passes through the cervix and the birth canal head first, the umbilical cord if tied and cut the baby is now independent of the mother
stage 3 of birth
baby is born, the uterus continues to contract and it expels the placenta and foetal membranes
lactation
the secretion of milk from the mammary glands
colostrum
is a thick yellow fluid less fat and suagr higher in minerals antibodies and proteins, helps to nourish baby and provides protection from infection
breastfeedinf
milk production triggered by the release of prolactin by pituitary, progesterone during birth inhibits prolactin
benefits of breastfeeding
