Builds impulse control

Anal stage (2)

Own comfort vs considering others

Builds respect for order and rules

Phallic stage (3)

Protect what you have vs work for future success

Become peer rather than dependent child

Selfish vs conscientious

Latency stage (3)

Moving from our family to the whole community

From negotiating with others to adjusting

Increases self esteem

Genital stage (3)

From fitting in to standing out

One we’ve learnt what other people want, we can look for close friends and romantic partners
