Open-hole completion
A type of well completion that does not require a production packer.
Cased-hole completion
A completion method that requires perforation to allow for production.
Liner in deviated section
A completion component that allows more measure length of the reservoir to be produced.
Drilling Mud Cleanout
A process performed before running completion to prevent reduction in well production.
Electrical Submersible Pump (ESP)
A pump that operates using electrical power provided from the surface.
Tubing Hanger Seal Failure
A situation that can be secured by setting a plug below the tubing hanger.
Tubing Hanger Plug
A device that seals off well pressure from above and below using chevron seals.
Polished Bore Receptacle (PBR) Space-out
In a cold production well, the seal assemblies are spaced-out to the top of the PBR.
Expansion Device
An equipment addition designed for wells with high tubing head temperature to allow the use of lower yield tubing.
Flow Coupling
A component installed on a Downhole Safety Valve (DHSV) primarily to reduce erosion effects.
Sub-Surface Safety Valve (SSSV) Setting Depth
Positioned below the depth where damage could occur from surface impact or explosion.
Non-equalizing SSSV
A safety valve that requires equal pressure across the flapper to be opened without causing damage.
Sub-Surface Controller SSSV
A safety valve designed to close when there is a decrease in tubing pressure.
Gas-lifting
The process of using a side pocket mandrel to lift oil.
Dump Kill Valve Leak
Signified by a first sign of the annulus pressure beginning to rise.
Sliding Side Door (SSD) Positioning
Usually placed one joint above the packer to allow annulus solids to settle without interfering with the device.
Jar-up to open SSD
A specific sliding sleeve design that prevents accidental opening if a full bore intervention tool is jarred down through it.
Retrievable Packer
A type of packer usually used on exploration wells.
Hydraulic Set Permanent Packer
A packer that should be run slowly to ensure pressure surges do not cause premature setting.
No-Go Shoulders
Features used to locate lock mandrels to their particular matching landing nipples.
Mule Shoe Wireline Entry Guide (WEG)
A guide that, if damaged at the leading edge, may cause intervention tools to become stuck.
MAASP
Maximum Allowable Annulus Surface Pressure; if exceeded, it can lead to tubing collapse.
Thermal Expansion
A phenomenon in high temperature wells that may increase annulus pressure to above the MAASP.
Pressure Control Equipment (PCE) Rating
The working pressure limit (e.g., 5000psi) which must not be exceeded by the wellhead pressure or during testing.
