Buckskin
- The color of a tanned deer hide with black points
- Shades may very from yellow to dark gold
- Points (mane, tail, and legs) can be dark brown or black
Appaloosa
- Not a real color, but a color pattern
- Variable pattern often consisting of white over the loin and hips with dark spots.
- Note that this is also a breed registry name, eluding to the color requirement of the breed
Paint
- Not a color, but a pattern
- Any background color with large white spots
- Also a breed registry name, eluding to the color requirements of the breed
- Several "Sub-types" of paints, the most popular being Overo and Tobiano
White
- True white, without pigment, though not albino
- Does not turn grey with age
- It's color is associated with a lethal gene, so not true breeding because of homozygosity for the white gene is lethal in utero
