the functions of the skeletal system are
protection of vital organs, muscle attachments, joints for movement, mineral storage, blood cell production
vital organs are protected by the ss because
many bones act as a rigid shell protecting vital organs and the CNS which are soft and easily damaged
protection of vital organs in physical activity is crucial
for performance and long term health which reduces chance of injury ensuring players can continue to train
example of protection of vital organs is
the ribs help protect the lungs and heart which aid respiration and the flow of RBC
muscle attachment is a function of the skeletal system because
bones provide a surface for muscles to attach ot via tendons so when a muscle contracts movement is achieved
muscle attachment is important for physical activity because
the ability to move is central to all physical activityies and this is created by muscle attachment
example of muscle attachment is
biceps muscle attaches to the radius and ulna in the forearm and when it contracts elbow flexes
joints for movement is a function of the ss because
a joint is a place where two or more bones meet and allow movement to take place
joints for movement is important in physical activity because
all physical activity require muscles to manipulate bones at joints, without joints you would be unable to move
blood cell production is a function of the ss because
RBC,WBC and platelets are produced in bone marrow contained within certain bones
blood cell production is important for physical activity because
RBC are especially important in aerobic activities because they carry oxygen to working muscles ,WBC fight off infections, and platelets help clot blood following an injury
the ss stores minerals
calcium and phosphorus within bones and these are necessary for vital body functions calcium and phosphorus are needed for strong teeth and bones and calcium is involved in muscular contractions
storing minerals is important for physical activity
because it is linked to the general health of an athlete which will affect their performance
way to remember the functions of the skeletal system are
Bones Make Moving Joints Possible
