Aeronautical Decision Making (ADM)
A systematic approach to the mental process used by aircraft pilots to consistently determine the best course of action.

Poor Judgment (PJ) Chain
A series of mistakes that may lead to an accident or incident, where one bad decision often leads to another.

Get-There-Itis
An operational pitfall characterized by a fixation on the original goal or destination combined with a total disregard for any alternative course of action.
Scud Running
The tendency to push the capabilities of the pilot and aircraft to the limits by trying to maintain visual contact with the terrain while trying to avoid physical contact with it.
Antiauthority
A hazardous attitude found in people who do not like anyone telling them what to do, often regarding rules as silly or unnecessary.
Impulsivity Antidote
"Not so fast. Think first."
Invulnerability
A hazardous attitude where a pilot feels that accidents happen to others, but never to them.
Macho Antidote
"Taking chances is foolish."
Resignation
An attitude characterized by the thought "What's the use?" and leaving the action to others.
Conventional Decision Making Trigger
Triggered by the recognition that something has changed or an expected change did not occur.
Personality
The embodiment of personal traits and characteristics of an individual that are set at a very early age and extremely resistant to change.
Margin of Safety
The difference between pilot capabilities and task requirements.
Symptoms of Excessive Stress
Emotional, physical, and behavioral signs.
I'M SAFE
An acronym used as a personal preflight checklist for pilots.
"S" in I'M SAFE
Stands for Stress.
DECIDE Model
A decision-making process consisting of: Detect, Estimate, Choose, Identify, Do, and Evaluate.

Effects from use remain in the human system for at least a week according to personal checklist guidelines.
