Latin American Dance
A dance form that reflects the cultural heritage of Latin America and is represented in the art form of dance.
Dancesport
Competitive ballroom dance involving a male and female executing rehearsed dance routines while competing with other pairs.
Samba
Brazil's official national dance with lively and upbeat music, often performed during big celebrations like the Carnival in Rio de Janeiro.
Rumba
A dance with African origins, characterized by a time signature of 4/4 and counting in beats 2 3 4 1.
Paso Doble
A dance inspired by Spanish bullfighting, involving sharp and quick actions and a time signature of 2/4.
Cha-Cha-Cha
A relatively new Latin American dance, popularized after the success of Mambo, with a time signature of 4/4 and accented beats on the first and fourth of each bar.
Jive
A perky and energetic dance with a lot of kicks, flicks, and twirling, originating from the United States and a time signature of 4/4.
Waltz
A smooth, rise-and-fall dance with a time signature of 3/4 and counting in beats 1 2 3.
Foxtrot
A dance with slow walking and side steps, similar to Waltz, with a time signature of 4/4 and counting in beats 1 2 3 4.
Quickstep
A dance created in the 1920s, similar to Foxtrot but a bit slower, with a time signature of 4/4 and counting in beats 1 2 3 4.
Viennese Waltz
A popular German dance with a time signature of 6/8 and counting in beats 1 2 3.
Dancesport Characteristics
Posture, timing, body line, poise, togetherness, musicality and expression, presentation, power, foot and leg action, shape, lead and follow, intangibles, and floorcraft.
Muscle imbalance
When a muscle or group of muscles on one side of the body is uneven in size or stronger or weaker than the other side's corresponding muscle(s).
Poor posture
The resting position of the body that, when maintained improperly, can lead to muscle imbalance and inefficient movement patterns.
Acute injuries
Sudden and severe injuries that are usually isolated to one body part and respond well to treatment.
Chronic injuries
Injuries that result from repetitive trauma and overusing one body area over a long period of time, with symptoms showing up slowly.
Ankle sprain
Injury caused by accidental or sudden twisting of the ankle or landing awkwardly on a foot after a pivot or jump, characterized by swelling, tenderness, pain, and discoloration.
Anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) tear
Injury caused by a sudden change in direction or pivot against a locked knee, resulting in pain, weakness, and swelling in the knee.
Back strain
Injury caused by overstressing the back muscles or improper lifting, resulting in pain in the lower back and muscle cramping.
Dancer's fracture
Injury caused by rolling the foot and ankle toward the outside, characterized by pain in the outer foot part, swelling, and difficulty walking.
Forearm fracture
Injury caused by falling on an outstretched arm or direct blow, resulting in pain, swelling, deformity, bruising, and numbness.
Achilles tendinosis
Chronic injury caused by intense or repetitive straining of the Achilles tendon, resulting in severe pain after exercise, stiffness in the morning, and recurring swelling.
Osteoarthritis of hip and knee
Chronic injury caused by repeated stress on the hip and knee joints, resulting in joint pain and stiffness.
Runner's knee
Chronic injury caused by muscle overuse, imbalance, and injury, resulting in pain at the front of the knee aggravated during activity.
Plantar fasciitis
Chronic injury caused by repetitive strain injury due to bad landing after a jump, excessive running or walking, or poor footwear, resulting in heel and foot pain, stiffness, and tenderness.
Stress fracture
Chronic injury caused by repetitive force and overuse or sudden increase in activity intensity, resulting in pain at the front of the leg (shin), tenderness, and swelling around the painful area.
Achilles tendinosis
Chronic injury caused by intense or repetitive straining of the Achilles tendon (located in the back of the leg) resulting severe pain after exercise, pain and stiffness in the morning, recurring swelling

Is actually the generic term for all partner dances whick includes the Latin American dances.
Posture
Shows the dancers confidence in executing the moves
Timing
The degree to which the dancers are in sync with the music
Body line
focuses on how long dancers body stretches from head to foot
Poise
Woman’s projection to the audience which involves stretching of her body upwards and outwards, and leftwards with respect to the man’s body
Togertherness
The harmong or movement of the pairs as if they are one
Musicality and Expression
refers to the blending of the moevment and choreography with the music
Presentation
measures the impact to the audience which includes costume and grooming
Power
The intensity at which the couple is performing
Foot and Leg Action
The impact of lower extremities on the overall performance
Shape
Strategic turning and swaying to achieve the desired position
Lead and Follow
Internal communication between the pair through non-verbal communication
Intangibles
Refers to how the pair blends into one pair and how they behave as they dance their costumes, and everything looks.
Floorcraft
Spatial techniques to avoid bumping other dancers during the competition or performance
