Get up
The act of waking up combined with getting out of bed, as in "What time did you get up?"
Flush
The action where water cleans the toilet bowl.
Back and forth
Moving from one side to another many times, indicated by movements like "← and →".
Up and down
Moving in vertical directions many times, indicated by movements like "↑ and ↓".
Slip
To move something gently into a small space.
Deodorant
A substance used to take away bad smells, often put under the arms.
The rest of
A term referring to the remaining members of a group after others have been taken out.
A pair
A term used for some items of clothing like pants or pajamas, even though they seem like one thing.
Barefoot
Walking around with no shoes or socks on the feet.
Cotton
A fabric that comes from the cotton plant.
Wool
A fabric that comes from a sheep.
Fitted sheet
A sheet with corners made to fit over the corners of a mattress, used only as a bottom sheet.
Smooth out
The process of removing wrinkles from a sheet or fabric.
Filter
An object with very small holes that allows liquid or gas to pass through while blocking large pieces of a solid.
Strainer
An object used to separate solids from liquids, similar to a filter but with larger holes and usually a handle.
Ground coffee
The substance obtained by grinding coffee beans.
Sprinkle
To make small pieces of something fall over a wide area.
Peel
To take off the skin of a fruit or vegetable.
Slice
To cut something into thin, flat pieces using a smooth and gentle motion.
Chop
To cut something forcefully into pieces that are not flat and thin.
Flip
To turn something upside down.
Melt
To heat a substance until it changes from a solid to a liquid.
A little bit
A quantity that is some, but not very much.
Check
To look at something for a short time to find specific information.
On time
Arriving exactly when expected; the opposite of being late.
Bus pass
A card or piece of paper that allows a person to ride a bus without paying cash for a certain duration of time.
Adjust
To move or change something until it is right.
Ignition
The slot for a car's key or the process of starting to burn.
Lower gear
A gear used to slow down or to go uphill while driving a bicycle or car.
Pull over
To drive to the side of the road and stop.
Overpass
A bridge used for passing over a street.
Shortcut
Using a way that is shorter than the usual way.
Pedestrian
A person who is walking.
Squeeze
To grip something tightly, such as when using bicycle brakes.
Leftovers
Amounts of food intended to be kept to eat after a dinner is finished.
Crumbs
Small pieces of bread to be thrown away after a meal.
Scrub
To wash something by rubbing very hard and for a long time.
Apps
Short for "applications," these allow a media player to perform specific tasks.
Soft
The opposite of loud when referring to the volume of music.
Flip through
To turn the pages or parts of a magazine or book quickly.
Look up
To find a word in a dictionary and read its meaning.
Commercial
Advertising broadcast on television or radio.
News
A report about what has happened; the word always ends with an "s".
Boring
A description for a show or activity that is not interesting.
Rewind
To move a disc or tape back to see something again.
Set an alarm clock
To turn the alarm to the specific time for it to ring in the morning.
Covers
A collective term for the top sheet, blanket, and bedspread that a person sleeps under.
Nightstand
A piece of furniture also called a bedside table.
Load of laundry
The amount of clothes washed at one single time.
Detergent
A soap used for washing clothes or dishes.
Sort
To divide items, such as laundry, into different groups.
Tumble
The action of a dryer turning clothes over and over many times.
Dust
A very light kind of dirt that makes a thin layer on furniture.
Litter box
The specific place where a cat goes to the bathroom.
Pounce
When an animal, like a cat, jumps quickly on something.
Fetch
When a dog picks up an object in its mouth and takes it back to the person who threw it.
Buff
To move a cloth quickly back and forth to make a car shine.
Rag
A piece of cloth used for cleaning, often made from old clothing.
Diagnose
To figure out a problem by noticing what it has caused.
Estimate
A guess about an amount, such as money for repairs or time.
Cold cuts
Already cooked meats that are eaten cold, often in a sandwich.
On special
Items offered at a lower price than usual.
Change
The difference in money returned when the amount paid is more than the total price.
Teller
A bank worker who helps customers with account deposits and withdrawals.
Withdrawal
The act of taking money out of a bank account.
ATM
An acronym for "Automated Teller Machine," also known as a cash machine.
PIN
An acronym for "Personal Identification Number."
Spam
Unwanted email usually sent to thousands of people at once.
Available
A state of being able to see or speak with someone.
Repeat
To say something again.
Small talk
Conversation about unimportant topics like the weather or sports.
Host
The person who greets guests at a party or dinner.

Movies that will soon be shown.

A request to eat food inside a restaurant rather than taking it away.

Food purchased to be eaten outside the restaurant; also called "to take away" or "to take out."
