What does RAREHOGG stand for?

reproduction, adaptation, response, energy, homeostasis, organised, growth/development, genetic code

2

What’s the difference between sexual and asexual reproduction? Which is better?

Sexual = 2 parents, asexual = one parent (genetic copy of parent is produced). Sexual is better bc it creates diversity which increases chance of survival in population.

3
New cards

What is adaptation?

features that help the survival of a population which are developed over time by a population, not by the individual.

4
New cards

What does life respond to? What are examples of those triggers?

Responds to stimuli from the 5 senses (or other senses based on the organism).

5
New cards

What is the origin of all energy?

the sun

6
New cards

What is metabolism?

The total number of chemical reactions in the body at any given time.

7
New cards

What is homeostasis and examples of it in action?

Homeostasis is the regulation of an organism to a balanced state: ex, regulation of body temperature and blood sugar (insulin).

8
New cards

What does the “organized” in rarehogg actually constitute?

That life is made of cells: they are unicellular or multicelular.

9
New cards

What’s the diff. between eukaryotes and pprokaryotes?

Eukaryotes are bigger and more organized, with a nucleus and many parts inside: prokaryotes have NO nucleus and the stuff is just floatin’ around in there.

10
New cards

What’s the diff. between growth and development?

Growth = getting physically bigger, development is cell specialization: the development of new cells designed to do specific things, which increases efficiency.

Think of it like physical growth vs maturity.

11
New cards

What does DNA do?

DNA holds the info that tells people to do stuff: it codes protein to do stuff (like make insulin).

Note: this is how we can code bacteria (who all use the same genetic code) to bulk produce insulin.

What are the independent, dependent, and controlled variables?

Independent = V modified by the scientist, x axis

Dependent = Modified by the independent vairable, y axis

Controlled = things that stay the same, control group is the unchanged test.
