Post-traumatic Stress Disorder
experiencing a profoundly traumatic event leads to a constellation of symptoms that include intrusive and distressing memories of the event, avoidance of stimuli connected to the event, negative emotional states, feelings of detachment from others, irritability, proneness toward outbursts, hypervigilance, and a tendency to startle easily; these symptoms must occur for at least one month.
Schizophrenia
a devasting psychological disorder that is characterized by major disturbances in thought, perception, emotion and behavior.
Schizophrenia characteristics & symptoms
Delusions, hallucinations, disorganized speech and behavior, negative symptoms. symptoms have to be present for at least six months and include at least one month of active symptoms to be diagnosed.
Who is affected by schizophrenia?
Usually appears in the early 20s, usually appear in men than women, 1% of the population.
What are the different subtypes of schizophrenia?
paranoid, disorganized, catatonic, undifferentiated, and residual types.
Dissociative amnesia
the inability to recall important personal information, usually following an extremely stressful or traumatic experience such as combat, natural disasters, or being the victim of violence.
Depersonalization/derealization disorder
characterized by recurring episodes of depersonalization, derealization or both.
Dissociative identity disorder
people with this disorder exhibit two or more separate personalities or identities, each well-defined and distinct from one another.
Personality disorders
exhibits a personality style that differs markedly from the expectations of their culture, is pervasive and inflexible, begins in adolescence or early adulthood, and causes distress or impairment.
