What are monosaccharides, disaccharides and polysaccharides?
Monosaccharides: simple sugars (have one sugar), such as glucose that make up carbohydrates
Disaccharides: mix of 2 monosaccharides
Polysaccharides: mix of many monosaccharides

State the 3 types of polysaccharides (large carbohydrate molecules) and their function and source
Starch: energy and nutrient storage, chloroplast and cytoplasm in cells
Cellulose: structural support, plant cell walls
Glycogen: energy and nutrient storage, livers and muscles
What are proteins made of?
Amino acids

What are fats and oils made of?
Fatty acids and glycerol

What is Benedict’s solution used for?
Solution used to test for presence of reducing sugar like glucose
Requires boiling water bath

What is Biuret solution used for?
Solution used to test for presence of proteins

What is ethanol emulsion used for?
Alcohol compound used to test for presence of lipids

What is iodine solution used for?
Solution used to test for presence of starch
