Action
Forms nitric oxide which alters chemicals responsible for smooth muscle relaxation in the systemic vasculature
Indications
1) Chest pain related to stable or unstable angina pectoris
Contraindications
1) Systolic BP < 100 mm/Hg
2) Phosphodiesterase (PDE) inhibitor use within 48 hours prior to encounter
3) Increased Intracranial Pressure
4) Allergy
Pharmacokinetics
Onset: 1-3 Minutes
Peak: 5 Minutes
Duration: 30 Minutes
Side Effects
Hypotension, Syncope (fainting) , Headache, Nausea
Precautions
Varies. Some become very hypotensive. Vitals should be closely monitored

SL, Buccal
Dosage (Per Maine Protocol)
With OLMC, administer 0.4 mg SL of the patients own nitroglycerin tab for cardiac chest pain
