How to check if brakes are working before starting a journey
Brakes should not feel spongy or slack and should be tested as you set off. The vehicle should not pull to one side.
Where to find Recommended Tyre Pressures Check
The manufacturer's guide. Check/adjust pressures using a reliable pressure gauge when tyres are cold, dont forget the spare tyre and refit valve caps.
Correct Head Restraint Position
Should be adjusted so that the rigid part of the head restraint is at least as high as the eye or top of the ears, and as close to the back of the head as is comfortable.
Safe Tyre Condition and Tread Depth
no cuts or bulges, maintaining 1.6mm of tread depth across the central 3/4 of the breadth of the tyre and around the entire outer circumference.
Headlights and Tail Lights Check
Explaining that you would operate the light switch (turning on the ignition if necessary) and walk round the vehicle to check that lights are functioning.
Anti-Lock Braking System (ABS) Fault Indicator
A warning light that shows on the dashboard if there is a fault with the anti-lock braking system.
Direction Indicators Check

Power Assisted Steering (PAS) Checks
Two simple checks before or at the start of a journey: maintaining gentle pressure on the steering wheel while starting the engine to feel slight movement, or turning the wheel just after moving off to check for power assistance.
