Causes of Disagreement Between US and Mexico
-Mexico did not recognize annexation of Texas
-Countries disputed US-Mexico border

President Polk sent Zachary Taylor to set up camp in disputed territory. Mexican forces fired shots, and Polk asked Congress to declare war on Mexico
