What are Macromolecules?
Carbohydrates
Proteins
Nucleic Acids
Lipids
What are Carbohydrates ? (include compositions and more)
Composed of: C, H, & O - Ratio 1:2:1
Monomers: Monosaccharide
Polymers: Polysaccaride
Terms that help remember what Carbohydrates are composed of?
Carbo = Carbon (C)
Hydrate = Hydroxy —> Carbon (C) + Nitrogen (N)
What are Monomers?
Small, individual molecular units that chemically bond together to form larger, more complex molecules.
Think of them as individual Lego bricks that link up to create a larger structure.
What are Common Monomers ?
Amino (amino acids) and Monosacccharides
What do Amino Acids and Monosaccharides form/create ?
Aminos (amino acids): Build protein and nucleotide which forms DNA and RNA
Monosacccharides: Creates Carbohydrates
What is a common Monosaccaride ?
Glucose
What are Polymers?
What are disaccharides
Two monomers (attached together)
